Founded in the late 1960’s Chanhassen Dinner Theatre is United States’ largest dinner theatre company. The theatre was a dream of Minnesota natives Herbert and Carolyn Bloomberg who were fans of Broadway shows from their yearly trips to New York. The Bloombergs built the log theatre in Excelsior, Minnesota in 1965. Inspired by this, the couple began construction in the middle of a cornfield on what was then called “The Frontier” and was opened in 1968. Chanhassen Dinner Theatre has grown since then into a sprawling 90,000 square-foot entertainment complex with four stages. The complex can seat up to 1600 guests overall. With nearly 300 staff, it produces all shows completely in-house, including set-design, props, and costuming.
