Taylor Falls, MN

The Taylor Falls Scenic Boat Tours has been operating as a family business since 1906. The licensed boat pilot and tour guide will point out the unique rock formations that were left behind as the glaciers retreated thousands of years ago. Among the most outstanding formation is the huge stone cross for which the St. Croix River was named, “St. Croix” means Holy Cross. Other sites that can be seen from the boat will be the world’s largest glacial kettles or “potholes.” The Lion’s Head, Turk’s Head and the highlight of the boat tour, The Old Man of the Dalles – the most outstanding natural rock face you’ll ever see. We will enjoy a delicious luncheon while on board.

Following our relaxing cruise, we will travel to the Folsom House Museum. This New England style home was built by lumber baron, W.H.C. Folsom. He was also a businessman and politician and had the house constructed for his family in 1855. Five generations lived in the home that has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The home is still furnished with the family’s original belongings including a Hews rectangular grand piano, Folsom’s vast library, clothing and other personal items. The informative guide will share some the family’s history and their influence on the development of this beautiful area and the state.

Dinner will be on our own at the St. Croix Casino in Turtle Lake. Choices include their café or buffet. For those that enjoy gaming, dinner can be taken to go.
