Wisconsin Dells

Wisconsin Dells lies on the Wisconsin River in a region of glacier-carved sandstone formations. Best known for as the Water Park Capital of the World, there are many other attractions we want to show you on this Hello Wisconsin Tour.

Our first stop today is at Wisconsin’s National Treasure; Circus World in Baraboo. Kodak moments abound! This is wonderful family entertainment. Besides a live show, there is a potpourri of attractions to amaze visitors of all ages, including a movie, magic show, all museum buildings, and various demonstrations. With lots of colorful displays and exhibits a stroll through the impressive array of vintage restored wagons will make a lasting memory to top off this visit at Circus World.

As we travel from Baraboo to Wisconsin Dells, we will pass many of the famous waterparks and unique attractions. Our goal today though is to show you the classic, the charming, the genuine downtown area of Wisconsin Dells. It’s that stretch of Broadway chock full of attractions, restaurants and shops. Lunch will be on your own at this fun spot in the Dells which has many delicious restaurants to choose from.

Following lunch, we will visit the H.H. Bennett Studio. Henry Hamilton Bennett was an inventive visual historian. His stereoscopic views of the dells of the Wisconsin River attracted visitors from across the country, and truly made him the man who made Wisconsin Dells famous. Bennett developed a passion for landscape photography in the field because, in his words, “It is easier to pose nature and less trouble to please.” As a result of his attention to detail, Bennett’s H.H. Bennett’s photography has been displayed in some of the most prestigious museums in the world and is prized by collectors. His original studio still stands on Broadway and is celebrating its 150th anniversary, having the distinction of being the oldest known operating business in Wisconsin Dells. Bennett’s family ran the business until 1998 when they donated the property to the Wisconsin Historical Society. Today the studio continues to house many of Bennett’s original photographs, glass plate negatives, photography inventions, cameras and equipment.

Saving the best for last, we will enjoy the natural beauty, wonder and mystery of Wisconsin Dells with an Upper Dells Boat Tour. This is the section of river above the dam in Wisconsin Dells, where we’ll cruise through an awesome path cut by ancient glaciers. We’ll pass under pine-crowned cliffs, navigate winding river narrows, and view iconic sandstone formations like Chimney Rock, Blackhawk’s Profile and Romance Cliff. To add to our adventure there are two shore landings. One at Witches Gulch which is a spectacular and spooky walk through a narrow canyon carved by wind and water and filled with fern glens, shadowy passages and hidden whirlpool chambers. The second shore landing is at Stand Rock, where we’ll walk to the base of this imposing pillar of sandstone, then watch as high above, a trained dog makes the famous leap from cliff face to Stand Rock and back again.

Dinner this evening, after our adventure filled day, will be included at the Ponderosa Steak House in Wisconsin Dells.

This is number three in our series of four and we want you to enjoy each and every one of them. Join us on all four of our Hello Wisconsin tours and receive a special gift after the August 7th tour.
