Mount Horeb Historical Museum
Escape from the hustle and bustle and come with us to Mount Horeb, where the trolls play, and this second tour in our series of four is sure to be a great get-away.
This self-proclaimed, “Troll Capital of the World,” is rich in Norwegian heritage and is most famous for its one-of-a-kind attraction, “Trollway.” This features life-size trolls lining main street and placed throughout the village. The trolls are picture ready and love selfies.
We will enjoy a guided tour of the Driftless Historium and Mount Horeb Historical Center. This fascinating walk through history will take us on a journey from the great glaciers to the present. Along the way we will meet American Indians, miners, innkeepers, farmers, cheese makers, sportsmen, preachers, schoolteachers, shop keepers, tourists and Civilian Conservations Corps participants as we discover their stories and importance in the driftless region and Wisconsin.
Our morning will be filled with many hidden treasures. Besides the trolls, the Trollway has some of the best local shopping in Southwest Wisconsin including casual cafes, gourmet restaurants, delightful bakeries, a worldclass brewpub, award-winning wineries, and so much more. We’ll quickly fall in love with the small-town charm and hospitality and perhaps a troll or two.
After lunch, we’ll head on down the road just a bit for a tour of Cave of the Mounds. This walking tour in the cave’s constant 50-degree temperature follows paved and lighted walkways on a stroll that is easy for all ages. This beautiful natural limestone cave has spectacular crystallized rock formations and shimmering pools that provide an awe inspiring, entertaining and educational experience for the whole family. The tour wouldn’t be complete without a stop at their amazing Rock and Fossil Gift Shop where you might just discover a unique natural item to go along with your whimsical troll.
This is number two in our series of four and we want you to enjoy each and every one of them. Join us on all four of our Hello Wisconsin tours and receive a special gift after the August 7th tour.
