House on the Rock

This world-famous attraction is a place where dreams are made real, they are full of awe and wonder, spectacle and drama. And yet there is more. The House on the Rock has been a Wisconsin tourist destination for over 50 years. The self-guided tour showcases the unique design of the Original House perched on a rock tower and a complex of buildings that contain eclectic, exotic and whimsical collections and displays. The dramatic garden displays include an Asian Garden complete with cascading waterfall and a serene pond. The Alex Jordan Center gives you a behind the scenes look at the attraction and its creator.

Alex Jordan, a creator of colossal magnitude, turned his dreams into reality. A fanciful house was just the beginning for a man whose imagination was unstoppable. Over the years Alex expanded his vision beyond the House and collected and built on a massive scale. One year before his death Alex sold The House on the Rock to Art and Karen Donaldson. Since 1989, the Donaldson’s have maintained and further developed The House on the Rock with amenities, new collections and buildings.

The House itself is an engineering and artistic marvel – each marvelous room is integrated into and around the chimney of rock. Among its most distinct and unforgettable features, the cantilevered Infinity Room extends out an unsupported 218 feet. Soaring 156 feet above the valley floor, its 3,264 windows treat you to a view that goes on forever – you’ll feel like you’re walking in the clouds.

The House on the Rock is a walking experience that encompasses many ramps, varied surfaces and outdoor areas. We have allowed plenty of time to stroll at your leisure to allow time to be spent at each room or special collection. Lunch will be on our own in one of the restaurants or food courts at House on the Rock.
