Sit back and relax as we enjoy a cruise on the LaCrosse Queen, an authentic paddle wheeler, as we make our way slowly down the Mighty Mississippi. Watch for eagles and other wildlife as we cruise past the amazing steep bluffs adjacent to the Great River Road. While on board, we will enjoy a delicious buffet style luncheon plus narrated history telling us the story of LaCrosse and its long relationship with the Mississippi River. As we near Lock and Dam No. 7 near Dresbach, MN the locking process will be explained, which is very interesting.

Following our relaxing cruise, we will travel to the Dahl Auto Museum where we will enjoy a stroll down memory lane. The Dahl Museum celebrates the family’s involvement as automotive dealers spanning over 100 years and five generations. The museum also features the history of the automobile through the eyes of Ford Motor Company, an extensive mascot collection and many beautifully restored classic automobiles from the turn of the century to present. Dahl Automotive LaCrosse is the ninth-oldest family-owned Ford dealership in the nation. The Dahl family takes great pride in giving back and sharing the historical treasures with the community. One very cool feature of the museum is the Starlite Drive-In which is a historical tribute to an old drive-in theater that was once in LaCrosse. The big screen shows old, classic films and embodies the spirit of the time of drive-in theaters.

The Historical Hixon House will be our next stop today. The house was built in 1858 by pioneer Gideon Hixon, who went on to become a wealthy lumber baron in LaCrosse. He and his wife Ellen raised their five sons in this home and expanded it to the size it is today. In 1965, their descendants gifted the house to LaCrosse Historical Society complete with its original furnishings. Our tour will include much of the history of the area as well.

We can’t leave LaCrosse without making our way to the top of Grandad Bluff. The 600-foot bluff overlooks the city of LaCrosse and offers an amazing view of the Mississippi River Valley which includes the three states of Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. This has been voted as the most “scenic view in the state.”

Dinner will be on our own at HoChunk Casino in Black River Falls. Choices include their café or buffet. For those that enjoy gaming, dinner can be taken to go.
