Chanhassen Dinner Theatre
A fun and transformative story, The Music Man is family entertainment at its best! This musical theatre classic songs like “(Ya Got) Trouble,” “Seventy-Six Trombones,” “The Wells Fargo Wagon,” “Till There Was You,” “Gary, Indiana” and many more! Meredith Wilson’s six-time, Tony Award winning musical comedy has been entertaining audiences since 1957 and is a family-friendly story to be shared with every generation.
The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman, “Harold Hill,” as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band that he vows to organize – this, despite the fact that he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall.
Founded in the late 1960s Chanhassen Dinner Theatre is the largest professional dinner theater complex in the United States. The theatre was a dream of Minnesota natives Herbert and Carolyn Bloomberg who were fans of Broadway shows from their yearly trips to New York. The Bloomberg’s built the Old Log Theatre in Excelsior, Minnesota in 1965. Inspired by this, the couple began construction in the middle of a cornfield on what was then called The Frontier and was opened in 1968. Chanhassen Dinner Theatre has grown since into a sprawling 90,000 square-foot entertainment complex with four stages. The complex can seat up to 1,600 guests overall. With nearly 300 staff, it produces all shows completely in-house, including set-design, props and costuming.
Prior to the performance we will enjoy a delicious lunch including one of their fabulous desserts.
