Smoky Mountains, Tennessee

Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Welcome to the Smoky Mountains! America’s most visited national park. The Great Smoky Mountains is an ideal getaway, and one of America’s oldest mountain ranges. A truly living mountain range, the Great Smoky Mountains are constantly reinventing themselves as wind, water, and erosion continuously shape these ageless mountains.

As we begin this exciting getaway, we will enjoy getting to know our fellow travelers as we spend our first day traveling to the Indianapolis area.

Arriving in Pigeon Forge on Monday, we will check into our accommodations that will be home for the next two nights. A special treat awaits us for dinner this evening at the famous Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant in Sevierville. The Stokely family, with a rich history dating back to 1776, has passed the tradition of excellence and character to the present. The Restaurant proudly holds the rank of Sevierville’s Oldest Restaurant and is fully committed to guest satisfaction. Our entertainment this evening will be at the Country Tonite Theatre. In its twentieth year in Pigeon Forge, the theatre continues to provide the best in quality entertainment with singing, dancing, comedy, gospel, American patriotism and more. We will see why Country Tonite has won so many awards.

Tuesday will be a day filled with local lore, interesting stories and firsthand knowledge of the area as a local guide joins us for a tour of the Smoky Mountain National Park. Sights and stops today will include the Newfound Gap, the mountain pass of the southern Appalachian Mountains and situated along the border of Tennessee and North Carolina. Rockefeller Memorial, a massive two-tiered stone structure forming two half ovals that sits astride the state border. A curving stairway runs along the outer edge of the memorial to the viewing area. This is the spot from which President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated the Great Smoky Mountain National Park in September 1940. Following our morning tour, we will enjoy some free time and lunch on our own in beautiful downtown Gatlinburg. This evening’s entertainment will be at the Hatfield and McCoys Dinner Feud. This Southern Feudin’ Feasting Family Fun show has talented musical acts and side-splitting comedy, with world-class cloggers and a delicious all-you-can-eat feast. Audience participation is encouraged but remember it’s all in fun and we all have to ride on the same motorcoach for a couple more days! Our evening continues at the Smoky Mountain Opry. Feel the Music with a some of the greatest all-time hits, a spectacular cast of singers and dancers, high flying aerialists, quick change artist, comedy, juggling and an incredible live band!

With our toes tapping and a song in our heart, we’ll begin our travels toward home on Wednesday. Our final night away from home will be at the beautiful Blue Gate Inn in Shipshewana, Indiana with dinner at a local restaurant.

As we travel the final miles home, we will have time to reminisce about the many wonderful natural and man-made attractions we have visited on this Smoky Mountain Getaway with the new friends we have made.
